I hope that you enjoy this week's answers and please be sure to hop over to the next author's blog to see how she answered the very same questions.
When someone finds out you’re an author, how do you handle the statement, “I have a story you should write”?
LOL! I didn't think people actually asked that question. Until, my sister asked me the very same question when she rediscovered that I'm an author. She said, "I knew that you used to write stories but I didn't know you were pursuing getting them published."
What??? Then she followed up with "I have a story you should write. I'll tell you all about the characters and you can write it. You just need to write it and make it sound good." As if I had magical powers to apply toward anything written.
"If you have a story, you should write it. I can never do justice to the characters that you envision in your head," I replied. "Tell you what, you write it and I'll be happy to help you edit it."
Do you write what you read?
Absolutely! I started out reading Romantic Suspense and I loved it. So, naturally, I started writing that genre. Some of it was decent and some of it lacked suspense, in my opinion. Based on a few recommendations from friends, I eased into contemporary romance reading. Then I discovered that my writing style is, actually, more contemporary than romantic suspense.
I am currently published in contemporary romance. My first contemporary, LOVE OVER TROUBLED WATERS, is released on March 22, 2014.
People often mistake the lifestyle of a writer as glamorous, give us the scoop, what about your lifestyle would shock your readers?
Wow, good question. I'm really just your average wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. There's not a lot of Glam in my world. I think that this perception is the biggest shock of all. Writing isn't necessarily glamorous. There are some days that I don't shower or even comb my hair. I also work from home so there is no sense of urgency to get any of that stuff done early in the morning. The only "must-do" is to roll out of bed, over to my work computer and start a pot of coffee. Pretty shocking about missing a day of shower, huh? {
